Labelmakers to acquire Label & Litho

Back to Media & Journal
We are pleased to announce that Labelmakers has entered into an agreement to acquire the shares in New Zealand self-adhesive label printer, Label & Litho. The transaction is to be implemented May 2018. Labelmakers will have no involvement in Label & Litho until this time and both businesses will continue to operate independently.

Label & Litho is a manufacturer of self-adhesive label products focussed on the food and beverage segments, located in Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. Founded in 1964, Label & Litho also remains to this day a family owned and operated business.

Further information on Label & Litho can be found at www.label.co.nz/about.

The acquisition of Label & Litho will enable Labelmakers to build its position in New Zealand, where we lack a strong operational presence. Furthermore, the acquisition will expand our digital product offering to New Zealand with local capacity and digital expertise. The shareholders and employees of Label & Litho have built a truly impressive business and we are very pleased to welcome them into the Labelmakers Group, come May 2018.

Labelmakers’ founder, Kevin Bamford, said “the proposed acquisition of L&L reaffirms our family’s long-term commitment to the label industry and represents the next step in becoming a significant player in the global label market. Our integrated supply chain makes us the lowest-cost domestic label manufacturer and we are committed to expanding this operational model throughout the region.”

As part of that expansion, Labelmakers has recently begun investigating plans for an initial public offering (IPO) on the ASX. “There are substantial growth opportunities present throughout the Asia-Pacific region and a public listing would provide greater access to capital to pursue such growth.” Investigations remain in their very early stages, with timing of any IPO at least 18-24 months away. Proceeds from a listing would be used to fund further acquisitions, new equipment and repay debt with the Bamford Family maintaining a controlling stake.
